Andrew Showell

Is this the Schooling Around tour in August or the National Books alve tour?

Posted on 17 July 2008

Andy

It’s the National Books Alive tour which is promoting Treasure Fever as one of the “50 australian books that you must read” campaign. But I’ll be talking about Pencil of Doom at the same time.

Hi Andy,
My name is Lily and I am an 8 year old girl from Brisbane. One of my favourite books of yours is ‘The Cat on the Mat is Flat.’ I am looking forward to reading ‘The Bad, Bad Book.’ I also support The Brisbane Lions.
I hope to meet you when you are in Brisbane.

Your so silly. Stay so silly.
Bye for now Lily (rhymes with well you know what!!!)

Sue Taylor

Hi Andy
My son Josh is nearly 9 years old and a HUGE fan of yours!
I’m pretty sure that his love affair with books started when he read one of yours first :o )
I personally like the titles you give your books!
Anyway, we have just moved to Toowong (6kms swest of Brisbane CBD) from Blue Mountains NSW. Josh will be in school when you come to Chermside on Friday 8th August.
He goes to Toowong State Primary School
Are you going to be making any other “appearances” in this area, or Brisbane central, within the next 12 months?
Thanks, Sue

Posted on 20 July 2008

Andy

Hi Sue, great to hear all this! I think Chermside is the only public session I’ll be doing in Brisbane this year, but schedules do change, so check back on the site and I’ll definitely be back at some point next year.

Donna

Hi Andy,

I am a year 4 teacher and over the last 18 months, our class has read the entire ‘Just’ series, The Cat on the Mat is Flat, The ‘Bum’ series and Treasure Fever. The kids are also eagerly awaiting Pencil of Doom.

We heard that you will be making an appearance at the Australind Public Library on August 11th, however I have tried to book a place for our class of 32 and have been told that it will be impossible to come as they are already booked out.

I would like to know if you are making an appearance anywhere else in South-West WA (Perth is too far away for an excursion), or if you are available for a quick visit!!! We would absolutely love to meet you as so many of our more reluctant readers have embraced your books, and they have become a class favourite.

Kylie Malcolm

Hi Andy,

My husband and I think your books are fabulous, as they have really encouraged our 7yr old son to read, he thinks that they are very very funny.(So do we!!)

Looking forward to hearing our son read more of your novels.

Thanks xx

Andy
I just wanted to congratulate you on “The Bad Book”. My son is 8 years old and struggles with the daily structure and routine of school. I watch with amazement as your books so well relate to the way Lachlan is behaving, thinking and feeling. Your silliness is fantastic and my son is able to escape into the worlds you create. Lachlan is able to concentrate and sit still as he giggles his way throught your stories. Well done and keep up the good work. Are you visiting Melbourne soon?
Kind regards
Yvette

irene and emily

Hi Andy,
In response to the letter from Donna I am a parent of a child in Donnas class that has been very very lucky to get a booking for myself and daughter at your visit to the Harvey area. My daughter ,Emily, is very excited to come and see you as she seems to have the same sense of humour and is a very keen reader especially of your books. Emily will be there on behalf of her whole class as they were unable to secure a visit. look forward to meeting you on the 11th august.

Andy,

I host a book club for my 8 year old and his friends throughout the summer and Treasure Fever was our third book selection for the summer. We will be gathering to discuss this story and do related activities together on Aug 20th, 2008 from 6pm-8pm east coast time in Pennsylvania, USA. Do you have any tips, suggestions, availability to do a web conference possibly???– where the kids could ask questions. I usually get 10-15 kids coming and their moms. Please respond

Hi Andy

My son Seamus recently had the pleasure of hearing you speak in Hobart. Unfortunately he forgot to take his book with him for your signature but had a wonderful time none-the-less. I love the fact that your books appeal so much to the kids and take much pleasure in watching and hearing them read.

Joy Donovan

Dear Andy,

I am a volunteer “read-aloud Mom” and have been reading to my kids’ classes since kindergarten (they’re now in grades 5 & 6). Your books are a big HIT with the kids in Evergreen Park, Illinois (U.S.A)….Will you ever go on tour in the U.S.?

P.S. I usually create “voices” for the characters in the books I read and have found it both amusing and challenging to find a voice for a “Butt”!
